Fund raising Cycle ride

 22nd October 2020
Veterans Chair Michael Oakes and C&W Regional chair Jayne Graham have decided to help raise funds for the Sainsbury Veterans Welfare Scheme (SVWS) and Grocery Aid charity where Jayne is a volunteer. With no reunions this year the SVWS lost out as there were no table collections and other charities have suffered without their usual fund raising sources being active. Mike and Jayne will be cycling between the Sainsbury's store at Ashbourne to the Sainsbury's Local at Buxton and back again which is a 48 mile round trip on 22nd September. If you would like to support them with a donation you can do so by the Just Giving website at:, click the purple button link at the top of the page, or by sending a cheque made payable to either "The Sainsbury Veterans Welfare Scheme" or "Grocery Aid" and send to Sainsbury's Veterans Association, PO Box 383, Leeds, LS26 1GH Read more

COVID 19 August Review

 17th August 2020
The Veterans Association Committee (VAC) continue to monitor the Covid- 19 situation and the Government guideline changes. The danger that cases could increase again if people relax their guard is now being seen around the world in new outbreaks. With these uncertainties and taking into account the health, safety and welfare of our veterans (who are in the most vulnerable group) the risks to our Veterans are still deemed to be too critical to allow a resumption of Veterans activities this forthcoming winter. The VAC advises Local Associations to cancel any activities or events for the rest of this year including Christmas lunches and Tinsel and Turkey holidays. Any plans for small events in 2021 should not commence until at least March and will be subject to review. There are reports of some venues going out of business where deposits have been paid so those planning events should take that into account before committing member's monies. Some coach operators are reportedly barring anyone who develops COVID-19, or fails a temperature check, so needing to make their own way home. Veterans must be pre warned if the local coach company adopts this stance. Much has already been done to minimise risks and we do not want to undo that good work and put anyone at risk. Read more
