COVID 19 August Review

17th August 2020

The Veterans Association Committee (VAC) continue to monitor the Covid- 19 situation and the Government guideline changes. The danger that cases could increase again if people relax their guard is now being seen around the world in new outbreaks. With these uncertainties and taking into account the health, safety and welfare of our veterans (who are in the most vulnerable group) the risks to our Veterans are still deemed to be too critical to allow a resumption of Veterans activities this forthcoming winter.

The VAC advises Local Associations to cancel any activities or events for the rest of this year including Christmas lunches and Tinsel and Turkey holidays. Any plans for small events in 2021 should not commence until at least March and will be subject to review.

There are reports of some venues going out of business where deposits have been paid so those planning events should take that into account before committing member's monies. Some coach operators are reportedly barring anyone who develops COVID-19, or fails a temperature check, so needing to make their own way home. Veterans must be pre warned if the local coach company adopts this stance.

Much has already been done to minimise risks and we do not want to undo that good work and put anyone at risk.
